CEV mourns passing of long-time Volleyball friend Edi Finger
News
The European Volleyball family mourns the death of a very close friend of the Volleyball game, Austrian legendary sports journalist Edi Finger junior, who died in Vienna at the age of 72.
Finger was the ‘face’ of the annual European Volleyball Gala for many years – and ever since this event took place for the first time in Vienna in the early 90s. The major attraction of the Volleyball Gala hosted by Finger in a number of truly iconic venues of the Austrian capital city was always the Drawing of Lots for the group stage of the CEV Champions Cup / Champions League, which he always introduced and followed with much interest and passion.
Finger was the real host of the Gala and played this role not only on the stage but acted as such towards the many representatives of the European Volleyball family as well, who convened in Vienna for such a prestigious occasion for some 20 years in a row.
We will always remember his warmth and sense of humour – as well as his keen interest in the Volleyball game and its growth and development. With this in mind, the CEV extends heartfelt condolences to his family and friends.
