The President of Volleyball Ireland since 2021, Nic Canna has been on the Executive Leadership team of an Irish multi-national company for the past 14 years, thereby leading a global software development team of 180 staff, spread across 14 different time zones and 12 different countries. Educated to Masters level, she started her career in Geophysics before moving into software development where she worked in the financial services industry before progressing into optical software. She specialises in project management, with a strong capability in building high-performance teams and delivering results on time.
Under her tenure, Volleyball Ireland has experienced a 46% increase in the number of licensed players, while commnercial revenues have boomed by 300%. Volleyball Ireland has claimed the National Good Governance Award, the prize for the Irish Sport Federation of the Year and become the first Irish Federation and Volleyball National Federation to sign the UN Sport for Climate Action Framework. In August of 2024, Ireland co-hosted the U20 Women's European Volleyball Championship - the first member of the Small Countries Association (SCA) to host a continental championship of any kind.
She was appointed a CEV Vice-President at the XLV CEV General Assembly held in Naples, Italy, in August of 2024, thereby becoming the first Irish member of the CEV Board of Administration as well as of the CEV Executive Committee in history.
