Ikast, Denmark, October 15, 2015. The Danish Volleyball Federation and the local sports schools in Ikast organised over the past three days the 2015 edition of the NEVZA U19 Championships. After three days and 24 matches, starring four and seven teams in the boys’ and girls’ categories, respectively, it was time to celebrate the eventual medallists of the competition.
Starting with the girls’ competition, the 2014 gold medallists from Sweden played Team Finland, who were making their first appearance at the NEVZA U19 Championships, in the grand finale of the tournament. The two strong teams gave each other a tough and well played match. In the end the taller team from Sweden, anchored by the talented outside spiker Isabelle Haak, recorded a 3:1 victory capped by a close and dramatic fourth set.
The hosts from Denmark took the bronze medal after edging Norway by three sets to none. Iceland settled for fifth place, with England and the Faroe Islands finishing the competition in sixth and seventh place, respectively.
The hosts from Denmark played their neighbours from Sweden in the boys’ final. In all three sets the two teams played very close up till the end. The more experienced Danish team performed extremely well in the deciding stages of each set and this way secured the gold medal in the competition. England claimed bronze after edging Iceland by three sets to one.
