SCA awards organiser and Federation of the year after memorable 2023
News
This past December, the Board of Administration of the Small Countries Association (SCA) had decided to award two of their member Federations in recognition of their activities and achievements throughout the year 2023. Such coveted prizes did eventually go to the National Federations of Andorra and Northern Ireland.

2023 Organiser of the Year - Andorra
This award goes to the Volleyball Federation of Andorra (FAV) following a quality audit among the participating teams, the feedback received, and the positive impact of the work done by the local organisers, who did not spare any efforts to ensure that the U20 men’s competition would run smoothly and without any problems. The athletes, coaches, referees, and officials were a shining example of unity and friendship that will live in the memories of all those participating and enjoying this event. Moreover, Andorra claimed the gold medal from the SCA 2023 U20 Men’s Championship. This was the first time the country in the Pyrenees did organise an international competition for many years – which makes everyone proud of them as members of the SCA family. Much gratitude goes to the FAV leadership that took on such a major challenge and delivered an excellent event.
2023 Federation of the Year - Northern Ireland
After some considerations, the SCA Board of Administration decided that they could not overlook the achievements of the Northern Ireland Volleyball Association, which came back strong to the international stage and participated in all SCA events held in 2023. “We felt that Northern Ireland showed interest and played well by showing up at all events in 2023 after some years of reduced participation. The NIR leadership deserves credit for their actions, and we count on their full attention and support in the coming years. NIR participation speaks through actions and commitment to overcoming problems and by showing excellent communication to lead the way,” said SCA President, Mr Helgi Thorsteinsson, who warmly and equally thanked all organisers of the 2023 SCA events – Andorra, Luxembourg, Malta, and Scotland.
Helgi Thorsteinsson“All SCA members showed great efforts in the best year so far for this Zonal Association. We are confident that we can build a better pathway for Volleyball where unity and more opportunities will prevail, and some progress is made. We are happy to look back and say that 2023 offered a good direction and impulse for the future of SCA Volleyball and Beach Volleyball."
