Rising stars poised to compete in inaugural EEVZA U16 Cup for sports schools and clubs
News
The Zhytomyr Sports School (Ukraine), SM Kaunas (Lithuania), two teams from the Tallinn Selver Sports School (Estonia), Jekabpils Sports School and the Liepaja School of Sport (Latvia) will contest the U16 men’s competition. The Ukrainian team from the Vinnytsia Region, SM Kaunas, Estonia’s Selver Sports School and Pärnu Sports School plus Latvia’s Daugavpils BJSS and Riga Volleyball School will compete in the women’s U16 tournament.
“The idea of a tournament like this was born already a long time ago because our young players need more opportunities to play international matches. In our region, this opportunity was realised in cooperation with EEVZA, thereby becoming the first zonal association to host such a competition. I hope that there will be even more representatives of other National Federations in the next editions, and because of the growing prestige of the tournament, other EEVZA member countries will be willing to host the event. This way, we could take the next step and organise these competitions over the course of the season in a number of rounds and across different countries. This would be a good example for other Zonal Associations so that in the future we can think about organising the European Youth Sports Schools/Club Championship Final,” LVF Secretary General Arturs Vitkovskis outlines the vision for the future.
“The tournament will have a high enough level because the winners and vice-champions of the domestic competitions for players born in 2009 in their respective countries will compete here,” Vitkovskis emphasises. “I hope all the participating teams will enjoy the competition and will return to their home countries with nice memories and positive vibes.”
