Porto, Portugal, November 18, 2024. Volleyball Ireland’s Secretary General, Gary Stewart was elected as President of the CEV Small Countries Association (SCA) at the FIVB World Congress in Porto this past weekend. He will be joined by an Executive Committee comprising of:
• Federico Valentini, Vice-President (San Marino) who retains his position

• Agusti Boldú, Technical Director (Andorra)
• Joanna McCrory, Treasurer (Northern Ireland)
Stewart is excited by the challenge ahead:
“There is incredible growth potential within our zone, and I am confident the SCA can play a key role developing our wonderful sport. The best way to grow is together and I know that with collaboration, communication and ambition we can support all members to inspire the next generation of Volleyball players.”
Stewart also paid tribute to the outgoing SCA President Helgi Thorsteinsson (Iceland) saying, “Helgi’s passion and commitment to Volleyball is clear for all to see, and I thank him for his energy and deep love for the sport. He has extensive Volleyball experience, and I hope he will contribute to our zone and sport in the future.”
Stewart also applauded the contribution of Faroese Treasurer Niclas Joensen adding, “Niclas played a key leadership role establishing the SCA back in 1984 and served the Board for 20 years. That is a massive commitment, and we are deeply appreciative of his commitment, expertise and work during that time.”
The SCA is made up of 13 National Federations ranging from Greenland in the North of Europe to Malta in the South. The SCA organises age-group European Championship qualifiers, senior national team competitions and a zonal world-ranked Beach Tour.
