Yerevan Mayor’s Cup 2026 crowned with success as competition expands with each edition

Earlier this month, the Yerevan Mayor’s Cup 2026, an international competition open to young girls under the age of 19, was held in Yerevan, with participation of five teams from four countries, namely Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, and Hungary.

The Yerevan Mayor’s Cup was run jointly by the Volleyball Federation of Armenia and the Yerevan Municipality for the third time, and every year this tournament is expanding its geography even more. Plans have been devised for 2027 to include both boys and girls. The organisers cover full board and lodging for the participating teams, as well as provide a prize fund of 14,000 Euros.

The Belarusian national team did not suffer a single setback and they eventually claimed the tournament victory, with Georgia and Armenia finishing in second and third place, respectively. The top three teams were awarded medals and cups by Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan, the President of the Volleyball Federation of Armenia Karen Asmaryan, the Head of the Sports Department of Yerevan Municipality Arsen Makvetsyan, and the President of the Volleyball Federation of Georgia Davit Tevzadze.

The President of the Volleyball Federation of Armenia, Karen Asmaryan, noted in his speech that the Yerevan Mayor’s Cup has already celebrated three editions and each time new countries join this wonderful tournament, which is very important for the development and promotion of the sport in Armenia. Moreover, he expressed hope that the geography of the tournament will expand even further and new teams will join the competition in 2027.
