Volleyball family mourns Bulgarian legend Todor Simov

Sofia, Bulgaria, April 27, 2020. The Bulgarian Volleyball Federation announces with deep sorrow the death of one of their truly legendary players, Todor Simov, who has passed away at the age of 91.

Simov was one of the best setters in the world in the 50’s, awarded as the best setter at the World Championships held in Moscow and Paris in 1952 and 1956, respectively. His resume includes multiple medals from European and World Championships with the Bulgarian national team. Simov was successful in his post-competitive career as well while coaching the women’s national teams of Cuba and Spain as well as club teams in Italy.

The CEV joins the Bulgarian Volleyball Federation in paying respect to such a remarkable human being, while extending heartfelt condolences to the relatives and friends of Mr Simov and acknowledging his great contribution to the development of both Bulgarian and European Volleyball in those early and pioneering years.
