Shahin Bagirov takes over leadership of Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation

The General Assembly of the Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation (AVF) was held on Tuesday, April 11. The event, delivered in the administrative premises of the country’s Ministry of Youth and Sports, started with the singing of the national anthem followed by an address of Azerbaijan’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Farid Gayibov, who wished all attendees much success and a productive session.

After the agenda of the meeting was approved, AVF President Javid Gurbanov delivered a comprehensive report, which was accepted by the attendees. Mr Gurbanov informed the delegates that he would resign from his role as chair of the Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation following his election to the very same position at the helm of the Azerbaijan Athletics Federation. The delegates accepted his resignation and elections ensued to define the next leadership of the AVF.
The current chairman of the State Customs Committee, Mr Shahin Bagirov, was eventually elected as the new President of the Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation. The newly elected President thanked everyone for the trust shown to him and shared some information about the future development and goals he has identified for Volleyball in Azerbaijan:
“We need to define new goals and we have to start working soon to achieve these goals."

Moreover, Mr Bagirov thanked the previous leadership of the AVF for their work. He noted that the popularisation and promotion of Volleyball are among the priorities and, at the same time, the AVF will work on drafting an appropriate strategy for the further development of the sport in the Caucasus country.
At the meeting, Mr Faig Garayev and Mr Bahruz Guliyev were elected AVF Vice-Presidents, while Zaur Akhundov, Elchin Agakishiyev, Ilgar Nuriyev, Elgar Bagirov, and Gunay Salamova were chosen to compose the AVF Board of Administration.

In the end, Mr Chingiz Huseynzade, Vice-President of the National Olympic Committee, and Mr Faig Garayev, AVF Vice-President, spoke about the future perspectives of the Volleyball game in Azerbaijan. Mr Garayev presented a special plaque to former AVF President, Mr Gurbanov in recognition of his support to the development of Volleyball in Azerbaijan.
