San Marino, January 30, 2019. The women’s national team of San Marino have started their preparations for the Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) due to take place in late May in Montenegro with a home tournament featuring four teams in total. The event took place at the Pala Casadei in Serravalle with the hosts claiming top honours without dropping a single set in the competition.

“After working hard for a while, we are obviously happy and satisfied with the progress shown by the team,” said the Technical Director of the Sammarinese national team, Cristiano Lucchi. “The results we achieved at this tournament let us hope for the best. I am confident that the team chemistry will further develop in the coming weeks and we will be ready for the GSSE.”

“It is a great result for us. The tournament was an opportunity to check the current shape of our players and to understand where to work towards the GSSE in Montenegro,” added head coach Loris Polo. “We have to organise ourselves better in defence and when playing high balls but I am happy especially with the addition of some younger players, even though I am aware that we still have much work to do.”

The 2019 edition of the GSSE will be taking place from May 27 to June 1 in Montenegro across five cities – Podgorica, Cetinje, Bar, Budva and Tivat.
