The second edition of the so-called ‘Remembrance Youth Tournament’ will run from May 1-3 with young boys and girls competing in Krakow (Poland) in an event organised by EXPERIENCE, a network of over twenty international volleyball clubs and amateur sports associations, including Modena Per Gli Altri, and the support of the National Federations of Italy and Poland.

This very unique tournament represents an opportunity for many youngsters to play and compare themselves with other young people from a different social, cultural and sporting background, but also provides a moment of reflection on one of the great tragedies of the XX century: the Holocaust. Boys and girls, in fact, will take a guided tour of the Auschwitz Birkenau concentration camp and other historical sites of the tragedy that resulted in the deportation and extermination of millions of Jews, gypsies, dissidents, homosexuals, and political opponents. It will be an intense experience for so many youngsters that goes far beyond just their sporting endeavours. The event involves 14 teams, eight in the women’s competition and six in the men’s category representing Poland, Italy, and Ukraine. The organisation will be overseen by Rodolfo Giobbe Giovenzana and Edward Skorek (world and Olympic champion with Poland in the 70s) and some of their former teammates (and Italian champions) in Modena.

These are the participating teams:

Women (under 16): Sosus, Sparta Kraków, Pogoń Proszowice, Kadra Małopolski 2011 (Poland), Scuola di Pallavolo Anderlini, Golfo di Diena Volley, Frigniano Volley Project (Italy), Szkoła Sportowa Bliznyuky (Ukraine).

Men’s (under 17): Pogoń Proszowice (Poland / Ukraine), Kadra Małopolski 2011, Sparta Kraków, Wawel Kraków (Poland), Enercom Spb Biella, Scuola di Pallavolo Anderlini (Italy).
