The CEV EuroVolley 2023 Women currently taking place in Belgium has, among many other things, also accounted for an opportunity to educate an impressive number of national and international referees according to the vision of the CEV European Refereeing Commission (ERC).

The Refereeing Commission of the Royal Belgian Volleyball Federation / Volley Belgium delivered earlier this week in Gent the so-called “Referee Day”, which was attended by as many as 80 people, mainly young national referees – who listened to a series of lectures given by high-level speakers. The list included ERC member Cor van Gompel (NED) – speaking on the role and duties of a Referee Coach, Vladimir Simonovic (SUI) - who spoke on the tasks of the second referee and Portuguese international referee Pedro Lopes Pinto – whose address focussed on what to do to make it to the highest level in Volleyball refereeing.

ERC Secretary Arturo Di Giacomo, who is also President of the Belgian Refereeing Commission, as well as the three lecturers all shared their experiences with the attendees in an environment that encouraged an open exchange and continuous interaction with an extensive use of video material.
