Power Cup travels to Loimaa to celebrate 40th anniversary – Registration is open until 31 March!
News
The 40th edition of the annual Power Cup, the world’s largest Volleyball event specifically designed for children and youth, will be taking place this coming June 5-8 in Loimaa, Finland. The Power Cup is not new to this city, since it was already held there in 2006. Of course, the event itself has evolved and changed a lot since then, but the core of the concept still remains the same.

The Power Cup 2025 is fast approaching with less than a hundred days to go. There are already over 750 teams registered. Beside Finland, teams from Latvia, Estonia, and Romania have registered for participation. Registration for the event closes on Monday, March 31. After that, the final number of teams participating in the tournament will be known.
Anna Komu“What a fantastic number of teams! At this point we have already exceeded the total number of teams from last year’s event. The teams for this year’s event have already registered quite early compared to previous editions. If they continue to register at the same pace, we will see a much larger number than in previous years and maybe even a record number of teams."

Loimaa is expected to attract more international teams than previous such events. The number of international teams has been increasing every year and especially in Estonia the event is becoming well known among young players.
“Foreign teams usually travel to Helsinki by plane or boat, so Loimaa is closer and therefore the event is more easily accessible than it was in the last couple of years. This will certainly also help to increase the event’s interest,” adds Komu.
Jankko volleyball and Hurrikaani Loimaa are the official local organisers of the Power Cup in Loimaa. Hurrikaani-Loimaa is a familiar name from the men’s national league. Last season, the club won their first Finnish championship title in history after a long wait. Loimaa’s other volleyball club, Jankko volleyball, is in charge of junior volleyball in the community. In total, Jankko has nearly 300 children and teens involved in the club’s weekly activities.
“Preparations for the Power Cup are well on track in Loimaa and the event is the biggest topic of discussion in the city. We have more than 20 people on our local Organising Committee. I have been delighted to see how enthusiastic and hard-working our volunteers have been in organising the Power Cup. I believe and hope that the people of Loimaa and surrounding region will volunteer and help in this great tournament. The Power Cup has been very well received by businesses and associations and we want this to be a collective event for the whole Loimaa region,” says Katariina Kojo, local manager of the Power Cup.

There will be some memorable moments when the Power Cup travels to Loimaa for its 40th anniversary. Alongside Volleyball, there will be a wide choice of activities. In addition, the Power Market will be present every day at the event area with a wide range of stands for both players and visitors. The artists who will provide entertainment at both the opening and closing parties of the Power Cup will be announced later. The youngsters have been invited to suggest artists of their choice on the Power Cup’s official social media channels. And the event itself is open to all, so locals and visitors can join in the fun and excitement.
The Power Cup has a long history. The first such tournament was held in Jyväskylä in 1985. The first four editions were organised and known as Collegiate Tournaments. Since 1989, the tournament has become known as the Power Cup. Currently, the number of teams has stabilised around 700-800 per year. The 2007 Power Cup held in Lahti has been the largest so far, with 954 registrations.
Games are played in a total of 25 different levels according to age, gender, and skills. In the Power Cup, the “All Play” ideology comes true, as a unique series system ensures that all teams receive the same number of matches from Thursday to Sunday, regardless of their ranking. The total number of matches over four days amounts to over 4,700. Children and teens also serve as referees in matches of their age group. The best thing about the Power Cup, according to many guests, is the good and respectful atmosphere felt among all the participants.
