OSCG and local municipality join forces to revitalise men’s Volleyball in Nikšić

The newly elected President of the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro (OSCG), Nikola Kažić, recently visited the municipality of Nikšić, where he had a productive meeting with the President of the local Municipal Assembly, Mr Nemanja Vuković, regarding the transfer of founding rights over the men’s volleyball club Sutjeska to the Municipality of Nikšić.
Kažić stated that this is a significant step towards revitalising the former hubs of Montenegrin men’s Volleyball, with Nikšić holding a special place. “I am extremely happy and satisfied to be here in Nikšić, visiting the President of the Nikšić Municipal Assembly and the people who will manage the men’s volleyball club Sutjeska. This is a major development for Montenegrin Volleyball, as we enrich the men’s volleyball scene with a club that is very important for the sport in Montenegro, and I hope the new club management will work diligently, primarily on reviving men’s volleyball and working with the younger age categories,” said the OSCG President.
Kažić noted that Nikšić had produced many great volleyball players and members of the national teams, and that the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro will provide maximum support to the volleyball club Sutjeska. “Nikšić is a city that has given many players to Montenegro, including Miodrag ‘Skale’ Gvozdenović, one of the best volleyball players in Europe of his time, Marko Bojić, one of our best players of all time, Blažo Milić, a long-time member of the national team, as well as the current leader of the younger generation and an excellent professional, Ivan Zvicer. The city of Nikšić deserves to produce such players again, and I hope this is one of the first steps in a beautiful cooperation that will be accompanied by the support of the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro for everything needed by the Volleyball Club Sutjeska,” said Kažić.
Nemanja Vuković expressed his satisfaction that the Municipality of Nikšić has taken over the founding rights of the men’s volleyball club Sutjeska. He also highlighted the intention to restore Nikšić volleyball to where it belongs and emphasised that the local authorities are creating a solid foundation for the future successes of Nikšić volleyball players.
Vuković and Kažić agreed that the first volleyball Super Cup would be held in Nikšić in honour of Miodrag “Skale” Gvozdenović, a native of Nikšić and one of the best Yugoslav volleyball players. The meeting also discussed projects to be jointly implemented, as well as the establishment of a volleyball school that will undoubtedly attract children and young people.
“I am especially pleased that we had the opportunity to host the President of the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro, the Secretary General, along with my colleagues, the Secretary for Culture, Sports, Youth, and Social Welfare, Mr Ivanović, and the future president of the Volleyball Club Sutjeska, which we recently took over as a Municipality. This is the best indicator of our commitment and our attitude towards sports in Nikšić, but also an indicator of our intention to return Volleyball to the place it deserves to be in our city, because Nikšić has produced many celebrated players, and we certainly have an obligation to continue doing the same with the young generations and to maintain Nikšić Volleyball at a high level,” said the President of the Nikšić Municipal Assembly.
Vuković emphasised that Nikola Kažić, the President of OSCG, deserves great credit for the revival of men’s Volleyball in Nikšić.
“All of this would not have been possible without Mr Kažić, who has been supporting us from the beginning. I take this opportunity to congratulate him on his election as OSCG President. Even when he held the position of Director of National Teams, we had a fantastic cooperation, and I am confident we will continue to enhance it. This is perhaps the best indicator of that. His work, effort, and dedication have yielded results, and I have no doubt that Montenegrin Volleyball has a bright future, and with the help of OSCG, so does Volleyball in Nikšić. We will strive to be a reliable partner to the club that will be owned by the Municipality, a partner to the federation, and a place where young generations can gather and grow into new volleyball greats in our city,” concluded Vuković.
Vuković is confident that the Municipality of Nikšić, MOK Sutjeska, and the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro will enjoy an excellent cooperation and that the construction of a sports-recreational park in the area below Trebjesa will provide new, much-needed training opportunities.
The meeting was also attended by the Secretary General of the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro, Ivan Bošković, Ivana Šljukić, the Secretary of the Nikšić Municipal Assembly, Dejan Ivanović, the Secretary in charge for Culture, Sports, Youth, and Social Welfare, as well as Milan Jovićević, the future president of MOK Sutjeska.
