News
The Volleyball family mourns the death of former international referee and official as well as head coach of the German men’s national team, Alexander Mühle, who passed away on July 28 at the age of 88.

Mühle was involved in Volleyball for decades and as a sort of pioneer in the sport, he coached Germany’s national team from 1961 to 1964. As an international referee, he officiated at countless international matches, including at the 1972 Olympics in Munich. He was a member of the FIVB Refereeing Commission as well as of the Refereeing Committee of the German Volleyball Federation (DVV) for many years, helping with the education and development of many young referees who eventually reached the international status. Moreover, he was a member of the FIVB Jury / Control Committee at several World Championships and Olympics.
In recognition of his services to the sport, Mühle received the DVV Badge of Honour several times over the years – in bronze (1980), silver (1982) and gold (1999). He was a committed, reliable and always helpful colleague whose memory will remain in everyone’s hearts and minds forever.
The European Volleyball community wishes to extend the most heartfelt condolences to his family and all relatives.
