NI Volleyball family mourns death of NIVA founder Art McRory
News
The Northern Irish Volleyball family has shared sad news following the passing of NIVA (Northern Ireland Volleyball Association) founder, Art McRory at the age of 82.
Mr McRory was a big figure in Tyrone GAA (Gaelic Football) but made time for basketball and other activities with the Thos Clarke’s GAA Club Dungannon and in the 1970 creation of NIVA, he was a first committee member. He, with Dungannon Rugby erstwhile Chairman Victor Scarlett, founded the local volleyball club which played for most of the 70s in NIVA leagues and Cups. Indeed, one of their players continued his sporting career as a very successful and busy goalkeeper with Dungannon Swifts AFC.
In the early 70s, McRory helped with Ulster Schools Volleyball organisation, competitions and coaching and refereeing programmes before being too busy to continue with NIVA or basketball after taking on the Management Coaching role with Tyrone County Senior Men GAA, leading them to the All-Ireland Senior Football Finals.
The most sincere and heartfelt condolences are extended to his family and friends.
