The 2022-2023 edition of the Azerbaijan national league started earlier this week with participation of four men’s and four women’s teams.
Two of these teams have represented Azerbaijan in the 2023 edition of the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup, with Murov BAKU reaching the 8th Finals of the men’s tournament, where they lost earlier this week to Orion DOETINCHEM of the Netherlands. Azerrail BAKU, on the other hand, had to bid farewell to the women’s competition after suffering two straight losses in the 16th Finals at the hands of Germany’s VfB SUHL Thüringen.
Currently, the Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation is working on negotiations to appoint a new head coach for their national team. The women will contest CEV EuroVolley 2023 in the late summer of next year – and they will play in Pool C in Düsseldorf together with hosts Germany, Türkiye, Czechia, Greece, and Sweden.
