The Volleyball Federation of Montenegro and the Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Northern Region Development have signed a memorandum of cooperation, which will help with the implementation of the Programme for Raising Awareness and Public Information on the Harmfulness of Plastic Bags to the Environment.

The memorandum, aimed at establishing cooperation in building an efficient, sustainable, and environmentally friendly waste management system, was signed by Minister Damjan Ćulafić and the President of the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro (OSCG), Nikola Kažić.
The programme is funded based on a legal provision according to which retailers of lightweight plastic carry bags, with a wall thickness above 50 microns, are required to pay a special fee of €0.03 per bag. The proceeds from this fee are injected into the Environmental Protection Fund.
“By signing this memorandum, we reaffirm our commitment to building an efficient and sustainable waste management system, while also strengthening public awareness of the harmful effects of plastic bags. In cooperation with local communities, sports federations, businesses, and international partners, we are laying the foundations for an environmentally responsible future for Montenegro,” stated Minister Ćulafić.

The signatories of the memorandum agreed to develop mutual cooperation through the exchange of information, advice, and support in the preparation of strategic planning documents, the development of studies, reports and programmes, the implementation of projects, and the organisation of periodic meetings to share information, experiences, and new knowledge.
The development of mutual cooperation is also aligned through the design and implementation of media campaigns, the organisation of seminars, public debates, round tables, conferences, events, and other activities focused on waste management. Furthermore, the agreement includes the planning and implementation of mutually beneficial projects and the development of joint ideas aimed at enhancing cooperation in building an efficient, sustainable, and environmentally friendly waste management system.
