Ljubljana ready for first Volleyball on Water tournament
News
The Volleyball spectacle on the Ljubljanica River starts on Saturday. The re:do Volleyball on Water event has attracted players from as many as ten countries who will enter the battle for the prestigious win in the heart of Ljubljana, Slovenia.
For the third time, fans can watch Volleyball played on the water at the iconic venue between Fishmarket’s Footbridge and the Triple Bridge. After two promotional events organised ahead of the 2019 EuroVolley and the 2022 FIVB Volleyball World Championship, volleyball players will now compete in the first such tournament. Teams from ten countries - Brazil, Croatia, Czechia, Finland, France, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Serbia, and obviously Slovenia – are coming to Ljubljana.
Metod Ropret"Given the overwhelming response, reach, and positive feedback of the previous two Volleyball on Water events in Ljubljana, we have decided to organise the first tournament. We are all looking forward to hosting players from 10 countries in Ljubljana where Volleyball on Water was invented."
President of the Volleyball Federation of Slovenia
In the men’s competition, the home crowd will cheer for Črtomir Bošnjak and Alan Košenina, while Tadej Boženk will team up with Croatian Josip Pribanić. Also playing in Ljubljana will be the Brazilian Marcio Gaudie, who will join forces with Frenchman Michel Tauli, Czech representatives Martin Melmuka and Adam Štoček, as well as Frenchmen Iskander El Ghouti and Malo Foncarnier. Alongside Hungary’s Botond Olah and Balazs Benko, Serbia’s pairs Marko Makarić/Uroš Muskinja and Milijan Kiković/Nikola Munćan will present themselves to the fans.
In the women’s tournament, eight teams will compete in Ljubljana, including three Slovenian pairs - Tajda Lovšin/Nina Lovšin, Klara Kregar/Lana Žužek, and Zoja Kalar/Živa Javornik. The home favourites will face the Finnish duo of Jenni Matalamäki and Ida Mämmi, the Italians Federica Tonon and Patricia Leebe, and the Poles Gabriela Pulawska and Monika Gajtkowska, while Serbians Aleksandra Vujačić and Bojana Mirković and Hungarians Nikolett Tartai and Dora Horvath will also enter the battle for the prestigious win.
