Kamienskie, Ukraine, February 17, 2020. The rookies from the group stage of this year’s CEV Champions League, Khimik YUZHNY beat Galychanka TNEU-Gadz 3-1 (25-17, 17-25, 25-10, 25-22) this past weekend to secure their seventh straight title in the Ukrainian national cup. It was the 20th trophy in the club’s history, which makes Khimik YUZHNY the most decorated women’s team in their country.
Khimik YUZHNY and their opponents in the final traded points in the early stages of the match, the eventual winners did even lose the second set before recording a 3-1 victory (25-17, 17-25, 25-10, 25-22). Tetyana Kozlova received the award for the Most Valuable Player of the competition’s final match.
A day earlier, in the semi-finals, Khimik defeated the current leaders of the Ukrainian Superleague, SC Prometey KAMIENSKIE after five sets. Khimik failed to capitalise on two match balls they had in the fourth set and on another four in the fifth, but their opponents failed to cash another two opportunities on their end too. Olga Skrypak eventually sealed a dramatic 3-2 victory (18-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-27, 20-18) with an ace. Hanna Kyrychenko scored 25 points for Khimik in such a valiant effort.
On February 18, Khimik YUZHNY will play against Germany’s Allianz MTV STUTTGART their last match in the group stage of the CEV Champions League Volley 2020.
