IVVA expects 700 players to compete at veteran tournament in Milan
News
The International Veteran Volleyball Association (IVVA) has disclosed plans for the organisation of a competition scheduled for June 11-15 and due to take place in Milan, Italy. Veteran players of at least 22 different nationalities have already confirmation their participation some three months before the tournament unfolds. The organisers expect about 700 players from across the globe to compete in Milan later this year.
In addition to the traditional, annual autumn camp and tournament held in Mallorca, IVVA has added to their programme another event at the beginning of the summer season, and another destination that is perfectly aligned with their vision of getting to know each other with other members of the volleyball community, for whom age is no barrier to continue to play the game even after ending their competitive careers.
“We have had many offers from all over the world on how to take our veteran tournament project to other countries and we are happy that we have now received an offer from Italy, where Volleyball is one of the most popular sports. We can feel from today’s meeting that everyone is looking forward to this event, considers it extraordinary and that Italian volleyball legends like Franco Bertoli and Giorgio Goldoni, who was present at today’s press conference, support our idea. They consider our regular gatherings of volleyball enthusiasts, for whom age is no limit, to be an amazing sports show and only regret that something like this did not exist in their era,” says IVVA President Adam Kubala.
“The Italians share our idea of playing the sport at any age, which they see as part of a healthy lifestyle. People shall not make excuses that they cannot play Volleyball anymore because of their age. All those who love Volleyball, have not given up on the sport and only regard their age as a mere number, they need to register for the right age category for our tournament, and our Italian friends will be happy to meet them in Milan in a quarter of a year,” added Přemysl Kubala, an Olympian and the main face of the tournament, who is expected to be in Milan with his teammate from the London 2012 Olympics, Petr Beneš.
