News
They are the best of the best in 2025: Erik Röhrs (Volleyball Player of the Year), Lina Alsmeier (Volleyball Player of the Year), Leana Grozer (Young Player of the Year), Arthur Wehner (Young Player of the Year) and Stefan Hübner (Coach of the Year) have won the German Volleyball Awards 2025.
More than 7,000 fans voted for their favourites in the modernised poll organised by the German Volleyball Federation (DVV) and Volleyball Magazine – resulting in record participation numbers.
Volleyball Player of the Year 2025: Lina Alsmeier (Igor Gorgonzola NOVARA)
The 24-year-old national player celebrates her first title as ‘Volleyball Player of the Year’ after a strong season in Italy and with the national team. “This is a wonderful confirmation of the past year,” said Alsmeier. As a key player for Italian top club Igor Gorgonzola NOVARA, she caused a sensation; as vice-captain, she led the women’s national team of Germany through the summer with outstanding performances. “I never dreamed of becoming ‘Volleyball Player of the Year’. This makes the honour all the more special because all the effort is appreciated by the fans.” The outside hitter also thinks of her colleague Camilla Weitzel: “She had an outstanding season and deserved it at least as much as I did. We are a good team and hope that we can inspire the younger girls and be role models for the coming years.”

Röhrs prevailed over his buddy and role model Georg Grozer, who has won the award several times. “I did not think I would actually be voted in – I did not expect it at all,” said Röhrs, surprised by his first award. Veteran Georg Grozer praised his ‘little brother’: “Erik is already a valuable leader – both on and off the court.”

Young Player of the Year 2025: Leana Grozer (SSC Palmberg SCHWERIN)
Things are going well for Leana Grozer: the older daughter of top star Georg Grozer has already become German champion at the age of just 18, and now she has also won the first ever ‘Young Player of the Year’ title. “It is a wonderful recognition to receive from the fans. I am honoured,” said the Schwerin native, who was injured in her first game at the U19 World Championship and missed the Women’s World Championship due to food poisoning. She therefore quickly turned her focus to the new Bundesliga season: “I want to be a leading player who scores points and also plays an important emotional role.” The same applies to the national team. Leana Grozer's goal for the coming summer: “I want to become an important player in the national team.”

Young Player of the Year 2025: Arthur Wehner (BERLIN Recycling Volleys)
The 20-year-old setter for BR Volleys is one of his country’s greatest talents. The fans agree, voting him ‘Young Player of the Year’. The news came as a surprise to Arthur Wehner, but it gives him “momentum for the next step in my career, which I am currently embarking on.” Wehner, who only played sporadically last season, is now firmly established in the squad of the perennial champions and is to be slowly introduced to the international level. He has no shortage of self-confidence: after a settling-in period – according to his plan – he wants to “be a regular player in his second or third year at the latest” and then aim for a contract in Poland or Italy. Given his ambitious mindset, it goes without saying that he also wants to establish himself on the national team at the same time.
