This past Saturday, Dr Costas Constantinou was elected President of the Cyprus Volleyball Federation for a second term. Last year he secured his first mandate at the helm of the organisation by replacing the late Dr Michalis Krashias and fulfilling the remaining year of his predecessor’s term.

As many as 27 clubs out of 28 affiliated to the Cyprus Volleyball Federation attended the General Assembly. Secretary General Marinos Stylianides was responsible for the work of the electoral committee. All clubs did cast their votes, 27 out of 27 were valid and one club did not attend the assembly due to medical reasons. The result was 14-13 in favour of Dr Costas Constantinou against his opposing candidate – who was the same as in last year’s elections.

After completion of the process, Dr Constantinou called for unity, and at the same time, the President stated that his main goal is to further improve the governance of the sport in all aspects of the Federation’s work. The four-year period 2024-2028 is crucial for the Cyprus Volleyball Federation and for the further development and growth of the sport in the Mediterranean island.

These are the five Cyprus Volleyball Federation’s Presidents from 1972 to this day:

•    1972 – 1992: Kostas Hadjiandreou
•    1992 – 2008: Andreas Stavrou (who is a CEV Honorary Member)
•    2008 – 2015: Damianos Hadjidamianou
•    2015 – 2023: Dr Michalis Krashias
•    2023 to date: Dr Costas Constantinou
