This past Saturday, February 5, the Regional Development Centre of the Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation (AVF) and the Ministry of Education jointly organised a seminar for coaches and teachers to aid the development of the sport among children aged 8-10.
The first such seminar with the participation of 20 coaches took place at the Sarhadchi Olympic Sports Centre in Baku. Nargiz Ismayilova, the Head of the AVF Regional Development Centre, Chingiz Samadov, the Head of the Olympic Reserve School No. 4, and Zaur Hajiyev, an international Volleyball referee, addressed the participants and wished them much success in all of their Volleyball endeavours.
Two Azerbaijani specialists, Sabina Yarmammadova and Yelena Mammadova, who attended the second edition of the CEV Coaches Convention held in Slovenia in September of 2021, shared their experience in involving young children in Volleyball, with an emphasis put on their training schemes. The participants witnessed a friendly match between children under the age of 12, with a Q&A session completing the programme of the workshop.
Rufat Akhmedov“The organisation of such seminars is very important for us. Today we talked about certain problems and became familiar with many innovations. Our main task is to arouse our children’s interest in this sport. As a coach, I try to do my best in this direction and I will continue to do so.”
Teacher at the Baku school no. 169
Yana Kuznetsova, who works at school no. 269: “This was a wonderful and exciting day. Together with my colleagues, we followed the lectures as well as the match involving a group of young girls. As a coach, I try to participate in such seminars and I share what I learn with my students. In secondary schools, children have a great interest in Volleyball. Our main task is to capitalise on this enthusiasm and help develop future members of our national teams. I believe that such seminars will be taking place more often. I wish good luck to everyone in their respective endeavours.”
After the match, the organisers presented all participants with certificates and balls provided by the CEV. Such seminars for coaches and teachers of sports at secondary schools are due to continue in February, March and April across Azerbaijan. After the seminars have ended, the AVC Development Centre plans to organise a tournament involving school teams from across the Caucasus country. This should start in late April and end in early June before the summer holidays.
