More than 50 schools in Malta have actively participated in this year’s European School Sports Day, which was celebrated on Friday, October 13. While most of the schools organised their activities on the actual day, several others held theirs throughout that week. The Malta Volleyball Association (MVA) School Project Manager was present in two schools on two different days as Volleyball featured prominently in the celebrations.
STC Ta’ Paris Birkirkara Middle School held their event on Monday, October 9. Apart from Volleyball, all classes participated in an obstacle course that took the students around the school premises and included speed, agility, coordination, balancing, and stamina.
Volleyball taster sessions were held as part of the CEV School Project that the school embarked on last scholastic year upon the school’s PE Teacher Marilyn Grech initiative. This project included Volleyball lessons as part of the Games Area syllabus and the organisation of a Midday Break Club, which saw more than 30 students participate. This number is projected to increase this scholastic year. Sessions at this school will take place again during the second scholastic term.
At SCC San Gwann Primary, students from Year 4 to Year 6 had the opportunity to practice 2v2 and 3v3 Volleyball prior to the start of the CEV School Project sessions that will commence at the start of November. This is a new college to join the programme and another school to benefit from the CEV School Project throughout the 2023-2024 school year.
