The Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation (AVF) continues to make good use of the CEV School Project ‘Play Volleyball – Grow with it’ to inspire and grow the next generation of players in their country. This past month, a regional championship for boys aged 14 to 16 was organised by the Oguz Regional Volleyball Centre at the Gabala Olympic Complex. This is where four and five teams in the U16 and U14 categories respectively played their matches for two weeks. Oguz RVK eventually claimed top honours in both age groups.

Two of the youngsters competing for Oguz RVK are due to join the national team programme

Following completion of this tournament, two young and talented boys were selected to play for the youth national team. This brings the number of local players, both girls and boys, joining national programmes from this Regional Volleyball Centre up to 14 in the past two years alone. This means that the CEV School Project is literally paying dividends. The teams from Oguz Region will now continue their campaign in the Playoffs stage of a nationwide competition which will be held in Baku in mid-March.

Moreover, in late March the Oguz Regional Volleyball Centre will host their colleagues from Ganja to play friendly matches in the U18 men’s category at the Gabala Olympic Complex too.
