September has been a very exciting month for the CEV School Project (aka Skólablak) in Iceland.

The Icelandic Volleyball Association delivered some educational activities at the University of Reykjavik, thereby involving 27 aspiring teachers and coaches, who could familiarise themselves with the Volleyball game. At the same time, while trying to grow the organisation’s network, much of the work revolved around preparing for a number of events due to take place from September until December.

The first such action took place in Mosfellsbaer, a 12,000-people town near the country’s capital, with much success. Organised in the indoor football field of Fellid, it involved around 320 kids from the fourth to the sixth grades (i.e. 9 to 12 years old) from two different schools in the area. With an increase of almost 100 participants from the previous such action, the organisers regard the figures as a great success for the town and the event itself.

The last event of this month took place in the town of Selfoss, on the southern coast of Iceland. This competition involved kids from some smaller towns in the surrounding area as well, such as Hveragerdi and Grímsnes. The participation of five schools was a big success, thus significantly increasing the numbers from the previous edition, from 34 in the first such action to as many as 166 kids.

October is coming and with it many exciting activities as well, with Project Manager Ana Vidal hoping that the outcome will be just as positive and encouraging.
