The 11th edition of the International Volleyball Tournament for Girls, aka Ljubljana Open 2025, was contested earlier this month (January 11-12) in the Slovenian capital city, thereby marking another milestone in its proud tradition. A total of 76 teams from six European countries – Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Croatia, Italy, and Serbia – competed in six categories, showcasing their volleyball skills and passion for the sport. The tournament welcomed over 900 players and coaches, thus creating a vibrant and competitive atmosphere.

The scale of the competition was a standout feature of the event. Across the two days of action, a remarkable 202 matches took place across 14 courts in seven sports halls around Ljubljana: Sports Hall Maks Pečar, Sports Hall Krim, OŠ Nove Fužine, OŠ Kašelj, OŠ Sostro, OŠ KDK, and OŠ Martina Krpana. The high level of play, combined with the enthusiastic support of parents, siblings, and grandparents, accounted for an unforgettable weekend.

For the first time, the Ljubljana Open 2025 joined the CEV School Project ‘Play Volleyball – Grow with it’, more specifically by supporting its key goals in the U14 age group. This category featured 12 teams, with OK Vodnjan from Croatia winning the gold medal, followed by Slovenian teams Radol’ca and Vital Ljubljana I, who claimed silver and bronze respectively.

Looking ahead, the Volleyball Federation of Slovenia (OZS) and the event organiser, ŽOK Tabor Ljubljana, have decided to expand their collaboration for the 2026 edition, scheduled for 10 and 11 January 2026. The U16 category will also be included as part of the CEV School Project, thus further strengthening the tournament’s role in nurturing and developing young talent.
