PE teachers and pupils join School Project activities in Estonia

As they work hard to inspire the next generation of Volleyball players with the help of the CEV School Project ‘Play Volleyball – Grow with it’, the Estonian Volleyball Federation visited in late August a course run by the Association of Estonian Physical Education Teachers.
The visit organised in conjunction with a PE teachers’ summer course aimed at introducing the basics of school Volleyball and an Estonian Volleyball-like game known as Ball Battle designed especially for young pupils from grades 1 to 3. As many as 42 teachers from 29 different schools attended the course. They followed a theoretical session about the basics of the game as well as a practical workshop held on a sand court where everyone was able to try all different exercises and test modifications depending on the number of people involved. All teachers received a Mikasa school volleyball as well as a net to take back to their schools – and to use in PE classes starting from September. Teachers also familiarised themselves with the CEV School Project Handbook for further learning.
More recently, on September 29, the Estonian Volleyball Federation together with Pärnu Volleyball Club coach Karl Lilles and two players visited two schools in the Estonian ‘summer capital’, Pärnu. The day started in Mai School where as many as 90 kids aged seven to 14 attended Volleyball practices in three groups. The day continued in Raekyla Middle School where 65 kids from the age of seven to 12 had their share of fun in four different practices. Both schools got volleyballs as a present – as well as handbooks to share with all teachers. Time will tell how many of today’s participants will end up becoming players in Pärnu Volleyball Club!
