Luxembourg, September 16, 2020. Earlier this year, the CEV and the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) started a truly historic joint project aimed at fostering the education of coaches working with young players and wishing to upgrade their skills. After the workshop held this past February in Luxembourg, the project moves now on to the next stage, with the selection of eight coaches – four from each continent – who will attend a two-week training programme in the spring of 2021.
There is a lot of interest and appetite for this once-in-a-lifetime educational opportunity, with as many as 24 applications received by the CEV from the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Germany, Georgia, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Kosovo, Latvia, Moldova, Montenegro, Netherlands, Northern Ireland, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Scotland, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, and Switzerland.
The CEV will work now in the upcoming days to schedule interviews with candidates to create a shortlist of eight people that the experts can join in for the final round of interviews. By October 15, both the CEV and AVC will have chosen the final selected four coaches from their respective areas.
The programme includes a first week of training in late March of 2021 run by Belgian renowned coach Gert Vande Broek, a member of the European Coaches Commission and long-time mentor of the ‘Yellow Tigers’, at the Faculty of Movement and Rehabilitation Sciences of the University of Leuven (KU Leuven), Belgium. About a month later, a second week of training will be taking place at the FIVB Development Centre in Bangkok, Thailand, under the supervision of Volleyball expert G.E. Sridharan of India.
With funding for this project provided by the EU Mobility Exchange fund, the CEV is very pleased to receive so many applications from enthusiastic and qualified coaches wishing to take the next step in their careers!
