London, England, September 23, 2019. After last season’s success, Little Giants are running junior after school groups across Clapham, Brixton and Wandsworth during the season just starting. The club is delighted to tell everyone it has introduced additional sessions at Brixton Leisure Centre this week. The first sessions with juniors and adult groups were a success, with about 55 kids attending junior groups in total throughout the week at the first week coming back to weekly sessions.
Schools are back and so are Little Giants’ junior Volleyball groups in South West London, now bigger than ever. Starting the week beginning September 16, players of all abilities aged 7 to 17 were welcomed and began with another indoor season or trying out the sport for the first time.
“Last season when we ran the junior programme for the first time, it was great to see so many children get active after school and the smiles on their faces,” said Çisel Ormancı, Little Giants’ Chairwoman, explaining the thinking behind the programme.
“For some, it was their first Volleyball experience. Volleyball and London are a great match - it is a sport that children can practice in any weather: rain or shine. It is a truly global Olympic sport, highly popular in different corners of the world, like Turkey, Italy, Brazil and Japan. Our programme is recreational as well as competitive. In addition to providing a pathway to elite Volleyball as two of our players from last year’s programme got noticed by England under 15s, we are also preparing to enter our girls and boys into English National Junior Volleyball competitions.”
“Our sessions are scheduled around school hours. With years of experience in education, I can appreciate the demands working and living in London puts on families, so working hours is one of the factors we wanted to accommodate,” she continued.
The club is running a junior week, with a Wednesday after school session at Caius House Youth Centre in Wandsworth, Friday at Brixton Recreation Centre and Sunday at Clapham Leisure Centre, plus two single gender Saturday sessions for advanced players. All the information with dates, times and locations is available at below link.
“We are currently running sessions in seven different schools as well, giving more pupils the chance to give Volleyball a go. Our mission is to make Volleyball accessible across London. At the same time, our Saturday groups give more experienced young players the outlet to hone their skills and progress to compete at local and national level,” Ormancı added.
