During the past month, it could be said that things started to move in the right direction for the CEV School Project ‘Play Volleyball – Grow with it’ in Gibraltar. Work has begun in almost all available schools.

The CEV project has continued on the sand courts with Prior Park school. In cooperation with Mr Rayn Woodward, children from Prior Park have been playing and learning Beach Volleyball until the end of October. It is important to note that children from Prior Park come in increasing numbers every time. So far there were 50 players, 35 boys and 15 girls.

Work continued this month in the lunch time club at Westside school in excellent progress. The number of children increased as the organisers expected. So far, 20 boys and 30 girls have responded. Great help in these two schools is provided by Mrs Alecia and Mrs Golt. Moreover, one class has had Volleyball as part of the curriculum for their regular classes.

After returning from the CEV Coaches Convention held this past September in Sofia and with the impressions she has taken from there, Emma Vaughan started a lunch time club at St. Bernard’s Middle School where she works as a teacher. The club currently has 28 participants, half are boys and half are girls. All the coaches who have gone to CEV conventions so far cooperate closely and help the Gibraltar Volleyball Association (GVA) with the delivery of the CEV School Project.

Work at St Anne’s Upper Primary School started in October, the training for one teacher and one class was completed, in November a new class and another teacher will be involved. GVA coaches hold Volleyball lessons as part of physical education.
