September has now become synonymous with the CEV Coaches Convention, and the Malta Volleyball Association (MVA) was excited to actively participate in the fourth edition of the CEV Coaches Convention held from September 22-24 in Sofia, Bulgaria. A group of five individuals represented Malta, including the MVA School Project Manager, two mini volley coaches, one coach and one Physical Education teacher whose school participated actively in last year’s project.

They had the privilege of hearing and interact with two esteemed speakers: Eric Hodgkin from USA Volleyball and Angiolino Frigoni from the Italian Volleyball Federation. Three engaging sessions were held during the two-day stay with theoretical, practical and discussion sessions which engaged coaches and teachers from diverse countries and helped them to tackle the challenges faced in their respective countries and craft innovative solutions and tasks that will benefit young aspiring players. This immersive exchange of ideas has been nothing short of enlightening, promising a wealth of knowledge to pass on to club players and schools.

On Monday, September 25, all schools in Malta opened their doors for students to start a new scholastic year. Following last year’s highly positive outcomes, the Malta Volleyball Association are eager to continue to work within schools and clubs to maintain these results and even try to improve on them. After evaluating what has been done, plans were made with the Physical Education Officers for both Primary and Secondary sectors.

Sessions in schools will regularly continue this year, aiming at increasing the number of visits in the Primary schools. Both students and teachers will benefit from these visits, as they will participate in practical sessions during lessons and staff development sessions, respectively. New colleges and schools will benefit from such visits.

Tournaments, festivals, and clinics will feature again this year. All Secondary year groups will have their own tournament while Primary year groups will participate in festivals.
