Scottish Volleyball kicked off October with the first CEV School Project Beach Volleyball event of the year! Despite the rather chilly temperatures setting in in Scotland, local primary schools from the Edinburgh area were out at Portobello beach getting stuck into some Beach Volleyball. Eight primary schools took part in the event led by RDO East Officer Veronica Rusich and Welfare + Workforce Officer Danny Traylor, specifically designed to let pupils try different sand-based sports. All involved had an excellent time and made great use of the CEV school balls and net bands.

Heading back indoors, the next event held was a Schools Festival for the east region of Scotland. Held at the Citadel sports Centre, 12 schools participated with more than 100 pupils involved in the day-long competition. This was the first of the Scottish Volleyball S3-4 festivals, aimed at pupils aged 14-16 and designed to create a competitive but fun atmosphere for those who are just starting in Volleyball.

Later in October, another such festival was organised, this time in the west of Scotland with 12 schools, 20 teams and across as many as six courts! More than 140 pupils, some from deprived areas in Scotland, descended on Kelvin Hall Sports Centre in Glasgow for the first S5-6 festival. Teams played timed matches in one large pool, before being split into competitive pools for the second half of the session. Long-term CEV School Project members Woodfarm High School and Belmont High School took the win in the boys’ and girls’ competition, with schools already signing up their teams for the next festival date!
