On May 9, the small settlement of Kangaamiut hosted a joyful Family Kids Volleyball Day with 38 participants taking part in the activities. For a small community of around 285 people only, the event showed the strong spirit and togetherness that Volleyball brings to the settlement. Families, children, and community members gathered to enjoy games, teamwork, and fun while celebrating one of Kangaamiut’s most important sports traditions.
Volleyball holds a very special place in Kangaamiut. Even though it is such a small settlement, it has become one of the most important places for Volleyball development in Greenland. Over the years, Kangaamiut has produced many talented players who have gone on to represent Greenland on the national team. The settlement is widely respected for its passion, dedication, and strong Volleyball culture.
Sports events like Family Kids Volleyball Day are important because they encourage children to stay active, build confidence, and strengthen friendships within the community – all values fully in line with the annual celebrations for Europe Day that fall on May 9 as well. Such events also help continue Kangaamiut’s proud Volleyball tradition by inspiring the next generation of players. Volleyball is more than just a sport in Kangaamiut – it is part of the settlement’s identity and a source of pride for the entire local community.
