Luxembourg, November 24, 2020. The very first project bringing together the European and Asian Volleyball families is making fast progress and will soon enter its most exciting stages. After completing a round of interviews with the candidates, the experts involved by the CEV as well as by the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) could eventually finalise the list of coaches due to attend the eagerly anticipated workshops scheduled for 2021 – hopefully in person if conditions with the pandemic and travel restrictions allow.
The following coaches will join the programme:
CEV
Mr Nikola DIMITROV (Bulgaria)
Mr Lesley de JONGE (Netherlands)
Ms Hazel PERRENS (Norway)
Mr Frieder STROHM (Switzerland)
AVC
Mr Martin COLLINS (Australia)
Ms FENG Kun (China)
Ms Wilavan APINYAPONG (Thailand)
Mr Chris TODD (Australia)
The selected coaches represent as many as six different regions: three Zonal Associations from within CEV (BVA, NEVZA, and WEVZA) and three regions within AVC (East, South East, and Oceania).
The historic Euro-Asia Coaches Cooperation project is benefiting from funding through the Mobility and Exchange in Sport Fund from the European Commission.
The project involves the CEV and their Asian counterpart, i.e. the Bangkok-based Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC), as well as the National Federations of Hungary and Slovenia. It is the second time a project designed by the CEV becomes eligible for EU funding, after a similar experience with the ongoing and highly successful CEV School Project ‘Play Volleyball, Grow with it’.
CEV and AVC will each organise a one-week training programme in 2021 for the above-mentioned coaches (one week in Europe and the second in Asia).
The CEV alone received 27 applications, each representing a different National Federation. The two nominated experts from CEV and AVC will conduct the programme in their respective Confederations to host the eight selected coaches and any supportive team members to assist with the project operations.
