The Cyprus Volleyball Federation has been working closely with the country’s Ministry of Education and Sports to further expand the reach of the CEV School Project ‘Play Volleyball – Grow with it’ to primary schools in Paphos, while activities have continued in Larnaca as well. Moreover, the Cyprus Volleyball Federation organised this past month some visits to primary schools of villages in the Limassol and Nicosia districts.

CEV School Project coaches Demetris Demetriou and Demetris Papapieris, two legendary names in Cyprus Volleyball, visited the villages of Erimi and Kolossi in the Limassol area. Their sessions were attended by as many as 90 and 70 kids respectively – next to practical sessions, a theoretical workshop was organised as well, which really ignited much interest and love for Volleyball according to the feedback received from the school masters.

Moving to the Nicosia district, the village of Deftera did welcome a delegation from the Cyprus Volleyball Federation. Together with CEV School Project Manager and Technical Director George Stefanidis, coach Anastasia Pantelidou and the captain of Cypriot champions Omonia Nicosia, Angelos Alexiou, helped inspire the local kids. Once he arrived at the school, Mr Stefanidis introduced Alexiou to the pupils, who happily recalled that he had attended this very same school in his childhood. Right after the end of the theoretical session, all the kids wanted to have Alexiou’s autograph, and this accounted for a special moment and experience for all involved.

This past May 26, a Fun Day of Sport was organised for the second year running under the leadership of a CEV School Project coach, Mrs Fotini Massou. Volleyball was among the sports featuring on the programme and during the space of four hours, around 70 kids passed by to learn some volleyball techniques with the help and under the guidance of legendary coaches Demetris Demetriou and Demetris Papapieris. Mr Stefanidis was there as well and shared his technical knowledge of the game with the kids, who showed much interest in learning and achieving some progress.

Even though the school year is reaching its conclusion, the Cyprus Volleyball Federation has scheduled activities for June as well, including the annual volleyball club festival for boys and girls born in 2011 and after. Moreover, some more visits in primary schools across the Nicosia and Limassol districts are planned too, namely in the villages of Tamasos and Pissouri, respectively. It is also expected to present Volleyball theoretically in Limassol and Larnaca at the volleyball camps run by the clubs of AE Karava and Marathonas.
