The primary schools re-opened during the second week of September in Cyprus and after the return of their delegates from the CEV Coaches Convention held in Skopje, the Cyprus Volleyball Federation organised two visits to schools in Limassol District to deliver Volleyball sessions.
For the CEV Coaches Convention 2022, the Cyprus Volleyball Federation selected four coaches (Angelos Papadopoulos, Foteini Massou, Antonios Liotatis, and Andreas Chrysostomou) plus one who unfortunately had to withdraw at short notice before making the journey to North Macedonia.
In conjunction with the European Week of Sport, an initiative promoted by the European Commission, the Cyprus Volleyball Federation, in co-operation with Limassol schools, run two Volleyball sessions. On September 28, a full-day Volleyball session took place at the elementary school of the Erimi village, with participation of 83 pupils (divided in five groups, with each group joining a 40-minute session) aged 9 to 11. The coaches Antonis Liotatis, Fotini Massou, and two female players of Apollon Limassol and Lemesos Volleyball were present as well. At the end of the session, the Cyprus Volleyball Federation presented the school with three School Project Mikasa balls and one net band.
Two days later, another such session took place at the elementary school of Paramytha, thereby involving 30 pupils aged 9 to 11 as well. Antonis Liotatis, Fotini Massou, the Cyprus Volleyball Federation CEV School Project Manager as well as two female players of Lemesos Volleyball were responsible for running the workshop, with the school receiving Mikasa balls and one net band too.
The Cyprus Volleyball Federation has already made plans for the delivery of a large-scale Volleyball festival at the end of the season, thus repeating the successful experience that last year involved as many as 190 young female players. The organisers expect more than 200 participants for the event.
As for October, the schedule includes a visit to the Private School of Foley’s to introduce Volleyball to 11 and 12-year-olds in Limassol District, with theoretical and practical sessions planned – as the Federation liaises with every school from across the island interested in joining the programme in order to inspire as many youngsters as possible to play the game.
