The Greenlandic Volleyball Federation did run their very first U21 women’s championship earlier this month with participation of four teams from Nuuk, Maniitsoq, Ilulissat, and Kangaamiut. It was obvious that all the players had started playing the game at a young age, with most previously involved in the so-called KidsVolley version of the game. In the meantime, Karl Ole Petrussen has taken over the reins of the CEV School Project ‘Play Volleyball – Grow with it’ in Greenland and he will be responsible for developing a strategic plan to submit to the Board of Administration.

In the country’s capital, Nuuk, GSS Volleyball club has increased the number of licensed players aged 10 to 16. Nuussuup Atuarfia, a local school, has involved some 40-50 kids aged 12-14 years, who have already been playing Volleyball twice, with more sessions due to follow. Ukaliusaq, another school in Nuuk, has so far involved 23 kids all aged 13 to 14. There are about 15-20 children in every training session organised by GSS Volleyball.

Further afield, in Kangaamiut, KTVI club has divided kids into age groups whereby those aged 5-8 train together, and the same goes for those aged 9-13 and 14 and older. In Kangaatsiaq, the KB club has so far involved 34 kids of various ages, who have one training per week, and they will have one extra session in the new year. Younger kids play with the ball whereas older ones have a more specific training in Volleyball.
