December has been another month that focused on ‘PLAY VOLLEY’ in the Republic of Ireland. A major school U18 tournament took place on December 14 in Dublin after as many as 109 teams had started out the journey back in late September. A total of 319 games were held over the last two months to determine the eventual finalists. The school competition has grown year on year with the support of CEV and the equipment/resources that Volleyball Ireland can provide to new and upcoming schools.

The CEV soft touch balls also were released to the successful schools that applied in late October. Presentation Kilkenny, Scoil Ide were among the 15 lucky schools that received the balls and online teacher resource support as well to ensure Volleyball delivery within the primary and secondary schools. Phase one of the programme will take place over the next four weeks and then children will be invited to the local club to initiate phase two of the CEV School Project.

Volleyball Ireland’s student education continued in Limerick city’s Villiers SS. The young coaches engaged in a full day programme with senior international setter Aidan O’Donnell. On the east coast, 12 students from Grange CC, Dublin took part in a referee development programme.
