After receiving the official permission to work in primary schools, the Cyprus Volleyball Association recently joined the annual programme run by the Ministry of Education under the slogan ‘Know your Sport' - which will take place in Nicosia thereby involving all primary schools across the Cypriot capital city and of the Nicosia district as well.

This past month, two of the locally appointed CEV School Project coaches, Anastasia Pantelidou and Ioanna Constantinou, accepted a proposal to teach Volleyball twice a week to any kids who would be visiting the Evangelos Florakis sports hall. On every working day agreed, both coaches delivered sessions for as many as 80 boys and girls aged nine to 11. Each day a different primary school from the area was visiting the venue. The programme will last until the end of March 2024.

The Ministry of Education and Sport is planning to implement similar actions and programmes in the other districts of Cyprus (Paphos, Limassol, Larnaca and the free areas of Famagusta) too, but for the time being only Nicosia has gotten underway.

Moreover, the Cyprus Volleyball Association is planning and has already announced to the clubs that a tournament involving boys and girls born in 2011 and even younger will be taking place on January 7. The event is open to all kids who have never played a competitive match in the U14 national league. It is a nice idea to give the chance to these youngsters to feel the atmosphere of a competitive match for the very first time and for coaches to see and assess their progress as well. The Cyprus Volleyball Association did run a similar action last year at the end of the season but with participation of only six clubs all comprising of young girls.

It has also been agreed that the Olympic House will allow the Cyprus Volleyball Association to invite all primary schools for a visit to attend a presentation of the Volleyball game under the slogan ‘This is Volleyball’. This will account for an introduction to the game both theoretically and practically and this initiative shall start as of January 2024.
