Albanian Federation delivers mini volleyball competition for girls in Lezhë
News
The Albanian Volleyball Federation (FSHV) ran a small mini volleyball competition this past month in the city of Lezhë as they continue to use the CEV School Project ‘Play Volleyball – Grow with it’ as a tool to inspire the next generation of players from the Balkan country.
Only girls aged from seven to 12 joined the competition, representing different schools from the city of Lezhë, and more precisely Beselidhja secondary school, Gjergj Fishta secondary school, At Shtjefen Gjecovi secondary school and Nene Tereza secondary school.
The girls aged 10 to 12 formed seven teams of four players each, playing sets up to 10 points and at the end of the sets, each player from the losing team would move to join another team. The team who would collect more victories would be crowned as the queens of the competition.
The youngest players, six in total, formed two teams and played against each other following more simplified rules.
This is the second time that such activities have taken place in the city of Lezhë.
As it happened before, the organisers could mobilise only girls, with local boys more likely to play soccer and basketball instead. The city of Lezhë already has a women’s Volleyball club – and the young girls involved in the CEV School Project activities showed their interest in joining the local team.
The FSHV wishes to involve more boys in future activities, making them aware that Volleyball is a sport for all.
