Volleyball coaching courses will be held from October 15 to 16 at the Riga Volleyball School in the Latvian capital city under the guidance of the “Action Volley” founder, Dutch renowned coach Remko Kenter – who is also the Secretary of the European Coaches Commission (ECoC).

Course participants will receive a CEV certificate upon completion of their classes. The courses are held in English and organised in cooperation with CEV under the umbrella of the CEV School Project ‘Play Volleyball – Grow with it’.

The slogan of Action Volley is “Volleyball through the eyes of children”. Action Volley was founded by Kenter in 2019. Since then, more than 100 Action Volley workshops and 28 international workshops have taken place across the Netherlands. To date, approximately 2,500 coaches have participated in these workshops, thereby engaging approximately 30,000 children.

On the first day of the course, coaches will be introduced to the principles of “Action Volley”, and on the second day – to the “Smashball” game, with both days starting with a theoretical review followed by its application in practice, before finally taking an exam.

“Coaches should be able to connect and empathise with the world of children. It is important that kids feel safe and comfortable in the group. Coaches also need to be able to explain things in a way that fits the language and understanding of children,” says the Dutch specialist about the main tasks of youth coaches. “The practical part is of course the most fun – being active on the court. That said, it is crucial that all practical activities are supported by a clear vision.”

“Children have changed a lot in recent years, and that’s completely normal. We live in a different world than before. Kids have become more outspoken and ask more questions. Volleyball has not always adapted to these changes. In many countries, less and less children play Volleyball – especially boys. One reason might be that Volleyball is a technically demanding sport. In older training methods, the emphasis was heavily on technique, which can be difficult and, as a result, it often felt boring for children. Thanks to new approaches like Action Volley and Smashball, children are finding the game fun again – because it’s played and taught in a different, more engaging way. Nowadays, coaches must place more emphasis on autonomy and connection with their players,” Kenter adds.

The course fee stands at € 70, which includes both theoretical and practical training, as well as lunch and coffee breaks.

The courses will take place every day from 9:00 to 17:00, including an hour-long lunch break and coffee breaks.

The number of places is limited!

Applications for the courses must be submitted by October 10 via this link: https://forms.gle/EQg7SMuWWoZgzjGy7
