In February, the Estonian Volleyball Federation hosted a huge grassroot-level ‘Volleyball Day’ in the second largest city of the Baltic country, Tartu – as they continue to expand the CEV School Project ‘Play Volleyball – Grow with it’ to inspire the next generation of players.

About 350 kids aged 7 to 9 representing as many as 22 different schools from across southern Estonia participated in the event. They played a 6-against-6 modified volleyball game called ‘Ball Battle’ which includes overhead passing and catching the ball while two balls are in play at the same time.

For most of these young players, it was their first experience of competition. The organiser and CEV School Project Manager Laura Milk applauded local Volleyball Club Duo for the smooth organisation and said:

“It is very important that all the kids get a positive experience from their first competition. We try to value their participation rather than the results. We also did an overhead passing skills individual competition which was run by the CEV mascot Ace and each participant got a small award from Kommipomm candy company. The whole day was full of fun, and we saw only happy faces in the gym!”

All participating schools also got a new ball and Mikasa band to facilitate their work of teaching Volleyball at the grassroots level.
