Trento, Italy, January 20, 2021. TRENTINO Volley are currently working for the next round of the Italian national league, with their upcoming fixture against Tonno Callipo Calabria VIBO VALENTIA coming up on Sunday, January 24. Simone Giannelli and his teammates are now experimenting an innovative and revolutionary Volleyball net, specifically designed to avoid any spread of the novel coronavirus.
Matteo Zingaro, who coaches the youth team of TRENTINO Volley, is the man who came up with the idea and recently received a patent for it after coordinating the production with Paller Teloni and Gruppo Giovanardi. This special net is made of transparent and recyclable PVC, similar in all aspects to traditional ones, but it blocks droplets coming from the opposite side of the court.
“The idea of this net stems from a very specific need,” explains Zingaro, “giving young athletes the opportunity to return to the court despite the constraints brought by the pandemic, which has placed our sport among the most dangerous – at least potentially. With this type of net, however, the risk of direct droplets is eliminated. Moreover, it is a fully sanitizable product, which can therefore really become an answer to COVID-19. My hope is that it can soon be used in official matches, since it is a fully regulated tool. The tests we carried out first with the A3 Series UniTrento Volley and then today with SuperLega’s Itas Trentino say that this is a net with technical characteristics very similar to the traditional one, different only to some extent for the rebound which, however, is maybe even better for the game. I am proud that President Mosna has offered me the opportunity to let high-level teams like ours try it.”
