Under the motto “Sport is good”, the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier awarded 17 citizens the Order of Merit on Wednesday at Bellevue Palace in conjunction with the so-called Volunteer Day. BERLIN Recycling Volleys Managing Director Kaweh Niroomand was among the recipients of this distinction in recognition of his decades-long commitment to German Volleyball.
On his birthday, Niroomand was invited to the Federal President’s residence in the heart of the German capital along with 16 other personalities, including multiple world and European swimming champion Franziska van Almsick. The nine women and eight men welcomed by President Frank-Walter Steinmeier “are outstandingly committed to sport and to maintaining club structures. They live sport as a unifying element and promote equal opportunities and self-confidence. They are also committed to participation and integration, to the inclusion of people with disabilities and to gender equality in sport” read the laudation.
In the case of Kaweh Niroomand, his commitment to German sport in general and Volleyball in particular has drawn attention and this deserved recognition as well. The Iranian-born man has been the long-standing, voluntary Managing Director of the SCC and the Berlin Recycling Volleys for many years. Among other things, he is committed to the interests of the sports metropolis of Berlin as a spokesman for the Berlin-based professional clubs. He is involved in numerous social projects as part of his club work and was Vice-President of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) from 2018 to 2021.
Kaweh Niroomand“I feel great joy and gratitude for this recognition. The award from the highest authority in the Federal Republic of Germany touches me very much and underlines that my personal work and that of the club is seen nationwide. Exactly 60 years ago, my parents made it possible for me to move to Germany. This country has offered me many opportunities since then and I hope that I have been able to give something back to society in recent years. This is a very emotional day for me."
In 2016, the successful manager of the BR Volleys received the State Order of Berlin from Governing Mayor Michael Müller. Now the recognition from the head of state of the Federal Republic has followed.
CEV President Roko Sikirić and the whole European Volleyball family extend the most heartfelt congratulations to Mr Niroomand on such a well-deserved recognition of his exemplary voluntary commitment and dedication to disclose and utilise the unique potential of sport to unite people and support the development of a cohesive, solidary, and healthy society.
