The members of the European Volleyball family will be coming together later this week in Katowice for the much-anticipated XLII CEV General Assembly – which runs in conjunction with the final weekend of the highly successful CEV EuroVolley 2021 Men competition held across four countries – Poland, Czech Republic, Estonia, and Finland.

Last year members of the European Volleyball family convened in Vienna for the annual General Assembly

The event is an opportunity to review the achievements of the past 12 months, where Volleyball stood strong despite the many challenges brought about by the coronavirus pandemic.

“We can only be as strong as we are when we act as members of one team. The coronavirus pandemic may have changed our daily lives but it has provided a number of opportunities as well. We have shown that with much courage and resilience, we can navigate even through these turbulent times and the sense of solidarity we have witnessed within our Volleyball family has been outstanding!”

Many sports have cancelled or postponed their events because of the pandemic. However, with very strict protocols in place and much determination, the European Volleyball family managed to deliver a truly successful 2021 edition of the European Cups, a Beach Volleyball season including highlights such as the Continental Cup Final and EuroBeachVolley and more recently the CEV EuroVolley 2021 across as many as eight host countries.

It has been a year to remember for European Volleyball for many reasons.

“The unprecedented success achieved by our teams at the postponed Tokyo 2020 Olympics is just a reflection of our hard work and commitment. With six medals across Volleyball and Beach Volleyball, the Olympic Games in Japan have been the most successful ever for our Volleyball family. Such results are even more remarkable if you think of the challenges that National Federations and their athletes have had to endure since early 2020.”

Looking forward to meeting with representatives of more than 50 National Federations, the CEV President feels much pride in leading a Volleyball community that has become a benchmark of solidarity and success:

“Our annual General Assembly should provide us with an opportunity to come together in a spirit of friendship and to celebrate our achievements. However, we shall never rest on our laurels. The world and the sports business continue to evolve at a very fast pace and we need to make sure that we anticipate the latest trends in order to inspire more and more people to play our game.”

The XLII CEV General Assembly will be taking place in Katowice this coming Saturday, September 18, followed by the CEV EuroVolley 2021 Men semis and medal matches at the iconic Spodek Arena – a real ‘Volleyball temple’ and an absolutely fitting place where to crown the new kings of European Volleyball.
