This past weekend CEV President Roko Sikirić visited Montenegro, where he attended a meeting with the country’s Minister of Sport, Dragoslav Šćekić and Zoran Gajić, who holds the same position in the government of Serbia. The conversations mostly revolved around Montenegro’s candidacy, together with their neighbours from Serbia and Croatia, to host the 2028 edition of CEV EuroVolley Men.

The meeting, held at Villa Gorica in Podgorica, also brought together other significant figures from across the Volleyball family, including the President of the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro, Nikola Kažić, as well as Ivan Knežević, the First Vice President of CEV, and Ivan Bošković, the Secretary General of the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro. This gathering was crucial for the further development of the candidacy, which could bring significant benefits to Montenegrin sport, tourism, and to the country’s international image.

Minister Dragoslav Šćekić, after the meeting, highlighted that organising the CEV EuroVolley Men in 2028 would be of great importance to Montenegro, not only due to the sporting success that the team could achieve on home soil, but also for promoting the country as an attractive tourist destination. He expressed confidence that such an opportunity would further strengthen the sports and social development of the country.

The meeting in Montenegro was a first step towards the achievement of such an ambitious goal. This event would not only be an opportunity to promote Volleyball but also to strengthen international relations and the tourist offering of the region, which could bring long-term benefits for all countries involved in such an endeavour.
