Today we celebrate the birthday of our beloved sport – which was officially born on February 9, 1895, in Holyoke, Massachusetts, USA – with the release of a digital experience allowing you to review 50 years of European Volleyball history! This unique online resource available here takes you on a journey that begins in 1973 with the establishment of the European Volleyball Confederation and ends with the many highlights of 2023 – when European Volleyball celebrated its golden jubilee. 

This tool celebrates the pioneers of the sport, the stars of the game from each decade as well as the tremendous evolution and transformation of our sport through a collection of images, texts, short clips and much more. It is with a sense of gratitude that we release this digital experience – gratitude towards all those who have helped shape European Volleyball since 1973, driven its trajectory and have helped entertain and mesmerise audiences across the continent and even further beyond. 

We hope this will help you revive cherished memories or simply know and better understand the history of Volleyball in Europe throughout the past 50 years. Many National Federations, friends, colleagues have helped us put this together and deliver this review in a way that shall be equally enjoyable, informative, entertaining, and project a modern image of our sport – whose growth and development shall continue for many more years!
