CEV President revitalises alliance with EOC authorities

Earlier this week, CEV President Roko Sikirić travelled to Rome for a high-profile meeting with some of the most prominent authorities from the European Olympic Committees (EOC), including EOC President Spyros Capralos and EOC Executive Committee members Zlatko Mateša and Mihai Covaliu, who are also Presidents of the National Olympic Committees of Croatia and Romania, respectively.

The conversation revolved around the continued growth of Volleyball and Beach Volleyball in Europe, with the EOC authorities openly acknowledging such a virtuous process, while the CEV President emphasised the importance of a renewed and expanded cooperation with the representatives of the Olympic movement in Europe. 

The parties touched upon future cooperation in the delivery of major events such as the 2027 European Games in Istanbul, Türkiye, the biennial European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF), whose next edition is coming up later this summer in Skopje, North Macedonia, and the Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE), whose 2025 edition is scheduled for late May in Andorra.

It was also emphasised the importance to undertake actions likely to help preserve the uniqueness of the European sports model as well as the continued development of young athletes. 

The CEV President looks forward to joining the European Olympic family later this month in Frankfurt, Germany, where the EOC General Assembly is due to take place – an opportunity to further cement this renewed collaboration for the good of Volleyball and sport in Europe.
